The Point England Innovating Streets initiative aims to test interventions outlined in the Tāmaki Regeneration Masterplan at a neighbourhood level. These interventions target a shift towards walking, cycling, and public transport, fostering community life and celebrating Tāmaki’s natural landscape and identity. Through tactical urbanism, temporary interventions are trialled directly with the community to assess viability before large capital expenditures.

Drawing inspiration from the ubiquitous tapa patterns of Pacifica culture, bespoke symbols were created reflecting Tāmaki’s local landmarks, flora, and fauna. Implemented along Anderson Ave and other areas, these patterns adorn street furniture, planters, roundabouts, and hoardings, contributing to Point England’s transformation into a low-speed neighbourhood.

Employing stencil and paint mediums aligns with the trial’s temporal nature, offering an economical and easily implementable solution for the community.
